Bayucca - thank you very much for the time and effort that you have put in to this identification.
The Parasa lepida does look like a good contender, just a pity that we cannot find early instar images.
I will see if I can find the plant again tomorrow and collect a few and hopefully a rooted plant sample. Solve this mystery once and for all.
I will leave the ID open for now, see if anyone else wants to have a stab at it, hope you don't mind, as I don't want to leave it with just a family name.

Limacodidae, Limacodinae, Parasa sp. and looks like being Parasa lepida, the Blue-striped Nettle Grub. I am not 100% sure, since yours are probably an earlier instar. Limacodidae are very tricky to ID. Most pictures on the web are just IDed as Limacodidae. Parasa lepida is probably the most common ones and considered as a pest in some aeras.
