Field Notes

Description:

Baby sibling groundhogs in our backyard.

Habitat:

Rural Michigan

Notes:

These two juveniles are part of a litter of eight born to mother Heidi.
Their father is Raggedy, identified by his deformed right foot. This
area, located at the base of our backyard rock garden, is favored
by young groundhogs. There are rocks for camouflage, vegetation
to eat and hide in, and a four inch drain tube that they can duck
into for safety.

Thank you for the SOTD, and for the kind comments! Marta, we find them to be very interesting animals to observe, and their bad reputation exaggerated. I hope you have the opportunity some day to observe and enjoy them!
I wish I had these babies in my backyard too :-)
