Mayfly (nymphs)

Mayfly eggs are laid on the surface of the water (eggs shown are not the mayfly eggs). The eggs hatch out into small insects called nymphs. These nymphs live most of their lives under water. The typical life span is one year. At the end of the life cycle the nymphs hatch, usually by swimming up and attaching themselves to the surface film. This one was discovered in the gel of salamander eggs.
