This is one of the larger globular springtails at 2.5mm. I usually find this species on leaves below eye level.

Thanks Lauren! I think the bug is too small to try and scare anything, but it might be a false eye tactic, making a predator attack the wrong end.
There are many species of globular springtails. Most can be found in leaf litter, under loose bark, in sparsely vegetated sand soil, on the underside of boards on the ground and on leaves and dandelion flowers.
Amazing Springtail! The hind end looks like a snake! Scare effect? Great macro shot!
Interesting looking bug (I have never seen this kind).
