Field Notes

Description:

An overall brown body with webbed back feet and a large, flattened tail to help propel them through the water. I was on a field trip and we were catching fish with fyke nets, and we got two young beaver in two separate traps. The video shows us releasing him.

Habitat:

Found throughout much of North America in aquatic areas in woodland areas. This guy was in a swampy marsh where they thought beavers no longer inhabited until we caught two that day.

He's soooo cute! I love how in the video he just plops into the water. I saw a bunch of these guys a few days ago too! :)
