Field Notes

Description:

Easiest of the swans to identify with the distinctive orange bill with a black knob at the base which extends in color to the face unto the eyes. This is a simply colored, but elegant bird.

Habitat:

Reservoirs, lakes, ponds and rivers

Notes:

Last year a pair of these swans arrived at this city park about this time of the year. They remained until early fall but did not produce offspring. This pair seem quite tolerant and will approach the photographer very closely as seen in the pictures of this individual of the two. They could be the same pair but other Mute swans were sighted in the area last year as well.
