Field Notes

Description:

This young (not long out of the egg) Tata Lizard has one crest, with small spines along neck. It has two broad pale stripes along each side of body from ears to hips. Grey, reddish brown to black in colour, with females paler,males steel grey. Darker bars can be present on back. Often seen waiving front leg (ta ta).

Habitat:

Savannah grassland and woodlands.

Notes:

Named after the British naturalist who first collected this species. Also known as Centralian lashtail, Gilbert's lashtail, Gilbert's water dragon, ta ta lizard. SynonymsAmphibolurus gilberti, Gemmatophora gilberti, Grammatophora temporalis, Physignathus gilberti, Physignathus incognitus, Redtenbacheria fasciata.
