Field Notes

Description:

The cottontail is grayish brown with black and gray tips on the hair. The underside is whitish with a short fluffy white tail.

Habitat:

The eastern cottontail prefers partially open brushy areas, wooded swamps, and woodland edges.

Notes:

I spotted this cottontail near a forest edge on Tamarac NWR looking out from a hole in the ground.
