I'm wondering about this. It looks a little broad to be a firefly, although it certainly looks like one. Have you looked at the American Carrion Beetle? They look very much like a firefly. The pronotum on this insect has the typical mustard yellow edges of a carrion beetle and the black spot in its center is more oval than what I'd expect on one of the fireflies.
