Field Notes

Description:

This spotting was growing on two different tree stumps. pic 2 is of the first spot and pic 3 is of another spotting on a different tree stump a few metres away. I've just found out there's another similar species in the Daldinia genus which is a little more shiny. According to this link: http://fungus.org.uk/nwfg/Daldinia-Dec10.htm D. fissa grows on burnt wood. I believe there's another similar species that grows on deciduous wood (not burnt)
