Field Notes

Description:

Large spotted cat of the Americas

Habitat:

Belize zoo. There were several enclosures with Jags in them - asleep in the heat of the day, although one melanistic one was calling loudly.

The Belize zoo is small, but richly appointed. Large planted enclosures with plenty of hiding places and natural fauna(and flora, as the local birds fly in and out of enclosures to snag bits of food. It could be called an accidental zoo. Started in 1983 as a collection of animals used to film a documentary, it later evolved into an educational facility for Belizeans and tourists alike

Notes:

Where else can you be nose to lens with a rare big cat
