Field Notes

Description:

terrestrial bromeliad, I think it's a species of Puya but not sure which one.

Habitat:

paramo, 3500, hot springs, thermals

Notes:

I spotted this plant on the slopes of Volcan Purace and at the San Juan thermals in Volcan Purace national park. I've added a habit photo. The area is otherwordly with hot and cold springs bubbling up everywhere and white and yellow stream of sulphuric water criss cross the whole site. I've never see anything like it. The second last photo is of a clump of them on Volcan Purace, all the rest are from San Juan thermals.
