Field Notes

Description:

A chubby yellow larvae with black dots and stripes. Each had a typical extrusion of frass, possibly to discourage predation by fussy birds and other predators. Maybe the eucalyptus enzymes were in short supply and this is a bad case of communal constipation?

Notes:

The trail of frass is indicative of weevil larvae. Several Eucalyptus weevils were present on the same branches shown in pic # 4 and I suspect these are the same species.

Thanks Stephen. There's a few different species according to BrisbaneInsects but he has no larval photographs. I can fairly confidently guess mine because there were adults spotted nearby.

I am working to process some little green ones that look like they had a poop throwing and everybody was liberally doused. Yours is very tidy in comparison
