Field Notes

Description:

Shield bug, 18mm body length. In the absence of the camera flash the bugs have cryptic colours, sometimes very hard to see them against the tree bark. (eg. Pic 2 head and thorax are camouflaged against the tree) They are quite timid bugs. The closer I moved with the camera the further they moved away. Pic 1 & 2: Adult, winged. Pic 3: final instar nymph with wings sheaths, body length 13mm.

Habitat:

Numerous bugs on large tree to 7m. James Cook University, Cairns QLD
