Field Notes

Description:

A harbour seal pup sunning itself on the beach.

Notes:

Mother harbour seals will often leave their pups alone on the shoreline while they hunt for food. Always be careful if you see a pup on the beach and give it a lot of space, as to not frighten it or its mother -- this can lead to her abandoning her pup. If you are unsure of what to do or whether or not a seal pup has been abandoned, call your local wildlife rehabilitation centre for info.
