Description:

The Yellow Jacket wasp is about half an inch in size. It has three pairs of walking legs and two antennae. It is black and bright yellow in color with light brown, transparent wings. It does not have definite stripes, but a distinct pattern of yellow and black markings on its abdomen.

Habitat:

It is found in Tecolote Canyon in areas with trees, grass, dead and dried bushes and branches. The dirt is dry and has many woody branches from dead grasses and trees. The weather is mild in winter and hot in the summer. The wasp was found on a stock of dry grass close to the ground. They generally nest in holes underground.
