Field Notes

Description:

I've never actually seen one of these before, so it was so exciting when it came and landed literally right next to me on a bougainvillea flower. These butterflies imitate the Common Rose in an effort to ward off predators. In fact, I thought it was a Common Rose till I noticed the conspicuous lack of a bright red body. Either way, I find this butterfly really pretty.

Notes:

The slight blurriness in the upper part of some of these photos is due to the fact that this butterfly, literally, NEVER stopped moving its wings. It was like a hummingbird!

This spotting is absolutely beautiful. It's amazing that you actually managed to catch the butterfly's wings in such a position! The pattern of the wings is gorgeous. Awesome spotting!
