Field Notes
Description:
A cocoon about 45mm ong and 25mm at its widest part. It had bits of leaves still attached to it and looked like the cocoon was made of silk with a covering of leaves. The midrib and leaf stalk was clearly visible.
Habitat:
Spotted in a clearing, on the ground under gum trees. Could have been washed out in the rain.
Notes:
The cocoon appeared to have some weight to it. I am unsure if this is a moth's cocoon, probably the Black & White Tiger Moth as in this link

If anyone can confirm from the external appearance then that would be wonderful. I have placed the cocoon in a container and will watch for a while...
