Rough green snake
Opheodrys aestivus
32.2277, -80.9958
Field Notes
Description:
A small colubrid snake, usually growing to around two feet in length, size may vary. Rough keeled scales give it it's name.
Habitat:
This snake is arboreal meaning that it spends it's life in the trees. Many people never see the small snake.
Notes:
The green scales on the snake let it blend in with almost any green foliage and it is a miracle to find one. They usually feed on insects and Chordata such as lizards, and minnows.
