Approximately 2"long (large) flying bug with rust colored wings. Spotted at a ranch.

Spider wasp - Pompilidae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider_wasp They sting and paralyze spiders, then drag them to a hole and lay an egg on them. The wasp larva develops by consuming the spider. They can have a quite painful sting.
