Field Notes

Description:

This tiny warbler was darting about in the garden next to my Dad's, it is a very similar size to a sparrow but you can tell the difference from its jerky flight pattern. It is fairly common in the mediterranean region but this one rarely stopped for more than a couple of seconds and seemed very busy flying to and fro. This one is a male as it has the dark head and grey front.

Habitat:

seen in a neighbouring garden in Moraira, spain.

so my Dad said :-( its the opposite here! I love the colours of bee eaters they are gorgeous. I shall look forward to some spottings from you then from the costa. Hope it stops raining soon!
Still raining and expected to continue for a few more days. Marshes are filling up with breeders now so will be lots of activity for a couple of months but then most will disappear in July and August when it gets too hot. Bee-eaters have been here for a couple of weeks now, colonies nest in old quarries and dried river banks around here.
I live in Sheffield Malcolm and was only visiting my Dad for his Birthday but thought I'd do a bit of documenting whilst I was there. the last day was bad for photographing birds though as it didnt stop raining. thats some lovely birds that you are getting now though. I will probably go again later in the year so may be lucky enough to spot the bee eaters that frequent the area.
You should be getting a lot of migrants also, I'm just up the coast from you and we are getting loads now, including some rarities. I've seen Montagu's Harrier, Snow Bunting, Spanish Wagtail and Spanish Sparrow in the last few days, as well as lots of waders.
I will indeed add them to your mission Malcolm, there are lots still to come and for info purposes I was just visiting my Dad there but all the birds we saw he said were regular visitors to the area.
Hi Debbie, can you please add this and your other Spanish birds to my Mission "Birds of Iberia" http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7726003, thanks.
