Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this red-bellied woodpecker pair sharing a tree with a bluebird pair. There are 4 woodpecker holes in the tree and the bluebird pair has the home on the south and the woodpeckers are right around the corner on the west.

Habitat:

These nests are on my farm, 100 ft. From a pond surrounded by woodlands and prairie.

Thank you cranbrook-sda-youth1! I hadn't heard them called red-shafted flickers before. The bluebirds eggs have now hatched because the parents are madly delivering worms to the nest, but I haven't seen the babies yet.
Nice two-in-one spotting! Red bellied woodpeckers are also called Red-shafted Flickers. I believe the bluebird is an Eastern Bluebird
Thank you Jellis! I am learning new things on project Noah every day!
I seen them do it out here with also Tree swallows and European Starlings. We even have some trees that Coromrant and Herons nest together in.
Thank you M17! I had never seen another bird sharing a tree with a woodpecker before!
Nice photo
