Field Notes

Description:

Relatively large hairy jumping spider around 10mm in length, most of our local species are less than 5mm long according to the books. Note the little black 'ear' tufts.

Habitat:

sitting on a house plant by an open window

Notes:

this little chap didn't jump, but possibly this was because they are normally diurnal (day active) spiders so I guess they rest at night and it was around 11pm when I photographed him. He wasn't asleep though because when I got nearer and tried to get a closer side view he surreptitiously kept edging round to keep facing the camera
