Resembles a cob of corn growing from the roots of oak or beech trees.

Habitat:

Oak-Beech Forest

Notes:

Also known as American cancer-root and Squawcorn. Parasitic non-photosynthesizing plant.

Thanks Erin! It grows in most oak and beech forests here. It is almost as common as the Honey Mushroom of which both can contribute to tree decline.
