Field Notes

Description:

I am trying to find an ID for this vine plant, so that I can record it as a host plant for the caterpillar of acherontia lachensis. The plant is a vine and this is the fruit. Unfortunately, the caterpillars had eaten all the leaves.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

I know it is a big ask for an ID, but I will settle for any good Asian plant links and I will do the leg work myself – thanks.

Oh well done Lenny. Thank you so much. I have only seen the caterpillar on this plant so far, although I have read that it is not a particularly fussy creature, with breeders able to raise the caterpillars on privet in the UK. Here is an article that lists the plants for this species: http://tpittaway.tripod.com/china/a_lac.htm Dave
I've never seen the caterpillar, though the moth is quite common here and I do have this vine in my garden. What other plant species have you recorded it on ?.
