Description:

A tangle of succulent stalks with red spiky fruit about as big as a golf ball.

Habitat:

Spotted along the roadside near Moree,. Perrenial plant of South America introduced into Queensland as a pot plant in 1890's. Dense infestations can reduce pastures to a level unfit for livestock

Notes:

Also named Moonlight cactus and Snake Cactus

Thanks guys! I was so pleased when I spotted it. It appears these plants are spread by birds and animals who love to eat the fruit and then the seeds are dispersed that way.
