Field Notes

Description:

A large clump of thick-stemmed bamboo. Update March 18, 2014: Destruction of this magnificent clump of giant bamboo was completed today by landowners on both sides of the fence it straddled. See the last photo.

Habitat:

Observed on the boundary between a degraded wooded area and a disturbed patch of remnant forest in a(n increasingly) semi-urbanized environment.

It saddens me to report that this magnificent clump of giant bamboo was completely destroyed today. Last week when they started burning the forest patch next door I was hoping they'd let it regenerate. Today they cut every remaining stalk to the ground. I've add a photo (last position).
