Field Notes

Description:

These large birds are really quite striking when seen in the sunlight (photo 2) as they have deep red feathers on their backs which contrast with the bright yellow tail feathers and of course the black. The bills are whitish and they have extremely vivid blue eyes. their nests are long and bulbous (photo 3) to prevent the Toucans from raiding them when they have young or eggs inside.

Habitat:

seen in the grounds of Asa Wright nature centre. mountainous rainforest Trinidad.
