Field Notes

Description:

I was given this as a Christmas gift, and we were under the presumption it was from a marine mammal. I have googled many different marine mammal vertebrae images and have found nothing similar.

Habitat:

Was found on a beach, though I'm not sure where.

Species ID Suggestions

I agree with Kevin, it will be next to impossible to give you a true ID, but we can certainly help you get close! If possible, could you add a few more pictures of the entire vertebrae? In each of your photos you cut off the bottom section. A front and back view would be helpful! :) Also, you have no info on where this bone was found? Anything? I'll keep researching for you!
This looks like a vertebra from a species of Chordata. Unless you can get some DNA out of that bone, using one vertebra to identify the genus and species of the organism it belonged to will be extremely difficult.
Here's a good mission to add this to, https://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8475425 People who are good at IDing animals this way go look at this mission often and are more likely to see it if it's in there :)
