Field Notes

Description:

Dark back, white bib, and bold stripes on the face. Federally endangered species.

Habitat:

Sitting on a power line at the side of the road in thorn scrub area. Aplomados were extirpated from Texas at one point, and they have been raised in captivity and released in south Texas and it's promising to see them away from their release sites like where I found this one at. This was also the closest up I've ever seen one.
