Description:
Locally this tree is also known as a Chacah. This tree reaches a height of 30 m, and has a diameter of one meter or less at 1.5 meters. Its leaves are in the forest canopy. Therefore is is best recognized by its shiny dark red bark. Gumbo-limbo bark is also considered an antidote for the caustic irritation caused by the Black Poisonwood.
Habitat:
It is one of the most common of trees found in the forests of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is found in the area with the Black Poisonwood.

Picture taken at a distance because the tree was close to nearby Black Poisonwoods.
