Field Notes

Description:

This one looked to be about 45mm across but I couldn't get within a couple of metres of it. Very active in the sunny parts of the forest, never landing for more than a second or two.

Habitat:

In a nature reserve adjoining a national park.

Notes:

Yet another creature named by Joseph Banks when he accompanied James Cook to explore Australia? Suppoesed to be above 300metres.. have I got the right species? <br>
Larvae feed on Poaceae and Cyperaceae <br>
family: NYMPHALIDAE <br>
subfamily: SATYRINAE <br>
tribe: Satyrini <br>
subtribe: Coenonymphina <br>
and then there are 3 or 4 subspecies !! <br>
