Wow thats a amazing find Pedro,i never saw that one too, congrats and thanks for sharing
Just once before 2011 explains why there is nothing in my books! There are a few regulars which winter in NW Europe, perhaps some have moved further south due to the bad weather there. We had a Snow Bunting here mid-March to mid-April at least and I got some good photos but not posted yet, except to the Spanish rare birds committee. Thanks for joining my mission, hopefully over time it will start to highlight these occurrences.
Hello Malcom, It is not the 1st register for Portugal, it's the 6th or 7th (it is worth noting the 1st register was in '94 and the 2nd only in '11). I don't know if the bird wintered here, but there was another one of its kind to have remained here from Nov/Dec - March, so it is very likely.
I assume this bird must have wintered in Portugal somewhere and also flew across Spain to reach there and flew back across Spain. I cannot find any records of this species in mainland Spain, only in the Balearics, is it a first for Portugal? By the way, I have a Mission for Birds of Iberia, http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7726003 to which you can add your bird spottings.
