Field Notes
Description:
Since the other spotting I posted didn't really do these guys justice, here's a new one. The worm snakes seem to have come out of hibernation late because of the cold winter, but now they're out! Well, they're out of the ground and under logs at least. Anyway, I've been finding lots of gravid females that have recently shed their skin. Hopefully you can see in the picture the beautiful iridescent sheen to the scales. This is an adult female, about 9 1/2 inches long, weighing about 0.3 ounces. (Yep, they don't weight much!) Very sweet little snake - sat in my hand for about 5 minutes without me even having to hold onto her and she didn't even musk or poop on me. :-)
