Field Notes

Description:

Large brown caterpillar about 3 inches long with tiny black spots that have white ring around them. The underside is white with brown splotches. This one had black goopy stuff on the face and near the end. Is this normal?

Habitat:

riparian area scrub oak along trail

Thank you! You may be right. The caterpillar wasn't moving but seemed to be alive. Hmmm
Great series, but no advice on black things... perhaps like a fungi?
