Field Notes

Description:

Not a very clear pic, however; this owl was spotted in a nest with at least one offspring. Large body and ear tufts. Brownish in color. Protecting a fuzzy grey downy feathered chick. Most likely female denoted by its size.

Habitat:

Saltese Flats area. Open flatland surrounded by hills. the nest it has taken over resides in a tree above a wetland area. Other signs of the owl were numerous owl pellets, some rodent carcasses and downy feathers from the owl near them.

Notes:

The owl was spotted in the same area twodays in a row.
