Field Notes

Description:

Erionota Mabille, 1878, is a genus of the Redeyes or Banana Skippers, butterflies belonging to the family Hesperiidae, subfamily Hesperiinae, tribe Erionotini. They are Southeast Asian, and one species, Erionota thrax, has become a rather widespread pest of banana.

Erionota thrax thrax (Linnaeus, 1767), commonly known as the Palm Redeye or the Banana Skipper, is one of the species occurring in the Southern Luzon area. Erionota hiraca apex Semper, 1892, and Erionota surprisa de Jong & Treadaway, 1992, are the other 2 species occurring in Luzon.

My spotting look a lot like Erionota torus Evans, 1941, Torus Skipper. It occurs in the Philippines, but is not a Luzon species.

Habitat:

Backyard, spotted at the wall of the garage.
