Field Notes

Description:

Brown, elongated spotting about 7 mm long that was attached to the underside of a Black Sage leaf. There were galls next to it. The last image shows the top of the leaf with the three green scars from the galls and the one brown scar that this spotting caused. "Salvia is not a known host for any Coleophora, but that's what this appears to be. There are something like 400 undescribed species in North America, and probably a good chunk of them are in California." - Charley Eiseman

Habitat:

Black Sage in chaparral

Hi Ava, I sure can. I was holding off to see if this was a gall rather than a Casebearing Moth :)
