it is like a strange little cartoon fantasy figure. Wonderful!
Thanks Andrea and Argy, that common name seems appropriate.
What a cool critter Dan. Great spotting!
Very interesting grasshopper. The head looks like bird's. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thanks a lot patty, you're more than welcome to use it as a poster.
I am thinking that this picture may be an interesting poster Dan...
Beautiful jumping stick hopper and picture Dandoucette! Its head is really strange indeed, it makes it look like a twig even more. Wonderful spotting Dan! =)
Thanks a lot Livan and Lauren, I'm just as surprised as you are. I would have never thought of this as a grasshopper.
Good for you Livan to have found this identification!
Livan, this is sooo neat. Love it. It is interesting that the hind trochanters are expanded for jumping - and not the femora. Can't believe that there is a type of grasshopper that imitates a walking stick.
Aha! found it!!! Jumping-stick Grasshopper. Check this out Dan: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16665122
Not a stick insect. It's a kind of cricket or grasshopper, we had trouble IDing a similar one a while back on here, let me see if I can find it.
Never saw anything like this! Maybe something new? Weird too that the antennae are so short.
