You are both right! Bush Cricket are actually katydids in British english and since India was a former British colony your "someone" refers to this term. But there are also so called "True Bush Crickets" from the family Grillidae as well. Yours is definitely a Katydid (US) or Bush Cricket (GB) or Tettigoniidae. The missing legs are not really missing, but covered by the body. Hi Satyen, this is an interesting insect! I don't think it's a cricket, though. The wing shape seems not to match any crickets I know of. I am not sure what it is at this time. I am leaning towards Katydid perhaps but I'm not sure. Was it missing both of its hind legs?
