Field Notes

Description:

This bag moth larva had a multi-layed & coloured conical but slightly truncated case. It had three sticks of varying sizes attached to the sides and at least one of them was fairly green, probably suggestive of a recent attachment. The sticks were from the same species of plant.
The case was about 35 mm long.

Habitat:

Spotted on a wattle tree in a national park - Cathedral Ranges NP.

Notes:

The larva was quite active when I first spotted it, moving around and up a branch. It finally came to rest on the underside of the branch, attaching itself to the spot.
The reference provided does not give a species name as there appears to be many undescribed species in this genus.
The attached sticks have been observed to shield the case from biting ants.
Family: Psychidae
