Field Notes

Description:

I have deliberately not referred to this as a Sri Lankan Elephant (E.m.maximus) because that sub-species is very dark grey but it may be that a low sun is causing this to appear very light. I am not aware of whether or not there are any E.m.indicus in Sri Lanka. This one was seen near the coast at the southern end of Yala National Park, outside the main entrance to the park.

Habitat:

Coastal wetlands area.
