Field Notes
Description:
Mushrooms had a cap about 25 mm wide with a slightly rough cuticle. the caps were a purplish brown with depressed dark centres.
Gills were cream coloured, slightly spaced and attached to stipe. The stipe was covered with dense "hairs" giving it a felty appearance.The colour of the stipe close to the cap was a pale cream and it deepened to a rich brown towards the base.
The underside of some caps showed patches of thin cortina covering the gills.
Habitat:
Spotted growing in clumps and layers on decaying log - eucalyptus

Notes:
The gills in mushrooms in my spotting do not appear notched as in most other photos of this mushroom. Also called "velvet foot"

It is interesting to note that the commercial Enoki mushroom is the same but grown in carbon-dioxide rich environment, very low temperatures and in darkness. Is said to have medicinal properties
