Field Notes

Description:

Plant: erect, perennial, 2'-5' tall forb; angled stems marked by fine, mostly parallel lines
Flower: head white to cream, cylindrical; inflorescence a 6" flat-topped umbel; blooms July-Aug.
Leaf: oval basal leaves, upper leaves somewhat lobed; parallel-veined, thick and firm, often eaten by insects
Habitat: wet to moderate moisture; meadows, prairies, bogs; in limy, loamy soil

Habitat:

Dry prairie.
