Ok girls, Sckel and Suzanne Monk! Thanks for the information and observation. ;)
Just a stray idea, because there seem to be two things going on here, and they don't seem to match up ... Sckel's right about that. So, about the purple-ish ground cover plant in the right edge of the first photo. Is it possible it has crept up the cycad and found good nutrients in the exhausted female cone of what looks like a sago palm? Becoming more robust and colorful? Or maybe there's no interaction, after all, maybe they look more colorful simply because they're not dusty. If the plant is close by, you might visit and and see if you can tell where the red foliage in the center originates, because you can also see bits of it sticking up through the fronds on the left side of the photo. Like I said, just a notion ...
It seems a kind cycadophyta, cyca, cycadaceae. But it has some strange flowers in the middle.
