Field Notes

Description:

We saw this dragonfly clutching its prey and the area near the chestnut tree at the end of Wright's Bluff Nature Trail. Because of the color, I assume its either a female or young male. Pondhawks are known for their predatory behavior.

Habitat:

Forested trail near Lake Marion and cypress swamps

Notes:

When we reached the meadow that is closed during migration season, dragonflies were buzzing overhead like helicopters in a war. It was quite spectacular!
