Hellebore/Hostni teloh
Helleborus dumetorum
46.1784, 14.595
Field Notes
Description:
Green, five-leaved flower (6-11" in flower) with multiple (9-12 segments) basal, serrate, pedate leaves and tall stem. Flower has very interestingly shaped petal.
Habitat:
Woodland. Well-drained and nutritious soil, but almost any position seems to suit it. Eastern Slovenia, western Hungary, southwest Austria, northern Croatia, and probably parts of Romania.
Notes:
Be careful not to mix it with h. odorus, which is poisonous!!! How you seperate it from Helleborus odorus: 1. Petals are narrow and do not overlap, where H. odorus's petals are much broader and highly obscured.
2. H. odorus leaf segments are wider (up to 4 cm), when h. dumetrum's are more narrow and lance-shaped (up to 2 cm).
