Field Notes
Description:
With caps upto about 25 mm, this mushroom had a thin dark brown "skin" with pale flesh visible underneath. Some had an umbo (pic2)with the centres perhaps losing them with age (pic1). Pale brownish pink spaced gills were thin with ragged free edges. Gills were adnate and free.
Stipe was pale and smooth.
Spore print was a dark brown.
Habitat:
Spotted growing on damp ground amongst leaf litter - damp forest gully

These mushrooms are seen in Australia as well as elsewhere in the world. The gills are said to turn pinkish with age as seen in pic #4.
Not sure why it's called "deer shield" will have to look into that....
