Field Notes

Description:

Low- growing cactus, with fleshy paddle-shaped spiky blades. Now they are in full bloom with bright yellow ,fist -sized flowers, frequently with attendant small native bees.

A few edible maroon- colored fruits are seen on the ground. I left them for the tortoises. :)

Habitat:

Pine sandhill.
