Field Notes

Description:

Hasora Moore, 1881, called the Awls, are a genus of skipper butterflies in family Hesperiidae, subfamily Coeliadinae. The Philippines has 13 recorded Hasora species, 10 of which are existing in Luzon.

This is Hasora leucospila leucospila (Mabille , 1891), the Violet Awl.

It was starting to rain already when I spotted the awl and took its photo. I was only able to take 2 shots (cover pic is just a cropped version of pic 2) before the rain fell hard. I had difficulty in focusing because the skipper was too shifty and would not stay long in one place.

Habitat:

Backyard garden, spotted on Lantana camara flowers.
